Hey Chris,

Regarding your comments about the two witnesses... I do believe, as you stated that people will see an obvious fulfillment in whatever we are to understand as their 'being taken to heaven'. I take this to mean that there is to be some great vindication of the word of God immediately before the sounding of the seventh trumpet signalling that the Day of the Lord has arrived.

What might that vindication be? Well in Matthew 24, just before the elect are gathered with the sound of a 'great trumpet' we see all the nations mourning at the 'sign of the Son of Man' in heaven. This seems to be something that most commentators gloss over. There is clearly some SIGN BEFORE the elect are gathered. We know that the elect are gathered at the seventh trumpet, so this SIGN, whatever that is precedes that.

Because all the nations mourn at this sign, then they obviously understand its significance - therefore I take this sign in Matthew 24:30 (a sign in HEAVEN) to be understood in conjunction with the two witnesses being taken up into HEAVEN.

By this I understand that the word of God will be vindicated by some sign immediately preceding the seventh trumpet and the gathering of the elect. Not to forget, as you mentioned, that at the same time there will be a huge political upheaval (earthquake) and 1/10th of the city will fall (the collapase of a Europian government).
